Business grants in Wallonia: funding your website and digital transformation
Wallonia's business grants can fund an audit, consultancy and your digital transformation. Here is what they cover and how to approach your application.

Digital transformation is no longer a topic reserved for large companies. For a Walloon SME, it often starts with a very concrete question: where to begin, and with what budget? Wallonia's support schemes, commonly known as “Chèques entreprises”, exist precisely to fund the support that answers that question.
These grants are not meant to buy software or pay for a subscription. They fund a consultancy assignment: analysing the situation, identifying improvements, structuring processes, defining a target architecture and preparing implementation. The point is to frame the project before investing, not to replace the investment.
In practice, these schemes assess the company's current digital situation, identify levers for improvement, define a coherent digital architecture, structure internal processes and prepare the rollout of digital solutions. They fall under professional consultancy rather than the simple supply of tools. They are managed by the Service Public de Wallonie and form part of the regional digital strategy led by Digital Wallonia.
Two schemes come up most often for an SME. The “digital maturity” grant targets companies that want to assess their maturity level, review existing tools and processes, define a digital transformation plan and draw up a structured specification. It suits businesses that want to organise their digital setup before investing in new tools.
The “cybersecurity” grant funds an audit or diagnosis of the company's security situation, an analysis of information flows and internal practices, and organisational and technical recommendations. It meets a growing need to secure data and digital processes.
Eligible assignments are professional consultancy work: auditing existing processes, an organisational and digital diagnosis, defining a target architecture, structuring information flows and supporting the implementation of the digital plan. They are usually organised in phases, with a clear, documented method.
That method generally follows a gradual path: audit of the current setup, diagnosis of issues and levers, definition of the target architecture, structuring of processes and data, automation of manual tasks, then support and adjustments. This progression keeps the company's needs and the actions taken aligned.
A few points deserve full attention before applying. Eligibility depends on the scheme and on the administration's approval. A grant is never automatic. The beneficiary remains responsible for submitting and following up the file. Finally, services are payable regardless of whether the subsidy is actually obtained. These rules are explicit, and it is better to know them before starting.
The terms, procedures and amounts of these schemes change: always check with the Walloon Region, the Service Public de Wallonie or Digital Wallonia before counting on support. Early guidance often clarifies quickly whether your project fits the framework.
An experienced provider helps frame the assignment, use the right administrative vocabulary, structure a quote consistent with the regional frameworks and avoid the usual mistakes when submitting the file. The provider acts as a facilitator, in line with the schemes' requirements. That matters for an SME without the time or habit for this kind of process.
